Interlude
A Film By Christopher Hlas
Overview
In this innovative short film by award winning writer Christopher Hlas (1st place, Gary Fleder-Scott Rosenberg Short Screenplay Contest), a woman's near death experience results in her life flashing before her eyes in a rhythmic and musical sequence, which chronologically connects simple past experiences to her present encounter with danger. Set into motion by a brief catalyctic event, Interlude demonstrates, with a lyrical edge, how a person's memories of q lifetime can be condensed into moments of rhythmic movement.

Hit Him on the Head with a Hard Heavy Hammer
Hit Him on the Head with a Hard, Heavy Hammer departs from the handwritten memoir of the filmmaker’s father and his experience of displacement during wartime. Referring to the notion Thomas Hardy termed ‘The Self-Unseeing’ in his eponymous 1901 poem, the film returns to childhood and the matters that harden us: upbringing, social status, education, labour, and familial bonds. The memoir weaves into the film as both a contemplation on mortality and an illustration of fading memory, reflecting on how we pen our pasts and how they can be re-told.
504
It was aboard the legendary and sturdy Peugeot 504 and Renault 12 that most North African families made the "route du bled," a ritual return to their homeland for summer vacations in Morocco or Algeria. The film chronicles a summer migration across the Mediterranean from the 1970s to the 1990s. The memory of these epic journeys punctuates the history of North Africans in France with bittersweet nostalgia, where travel stories blend industrial automotive heritage with personal memories.
