Rise and Fall
Past and present flow into one another.
Overview
Rise and Fall is a two-channel video installation by artist Fiona Tan, exploring the relationship between memory, time and identity. Two women from different generations appear in similar landscapes, their everyday routines interwoven with gestures that evoke memories and connections across time. Images of moving water serve as a metaphor for the fluid relationship between past and present, as memories and experiences continually overlap and influence one another.

For forty years, this crime has been concealed; yet these events, the deadliest on French soil since the Second World War, resemble, in some respects, the darkest hours of the collaboration. Why has this history been hidden? Under what conditions, and in the name of what reasons, did officials of a democratic state conceal the scale and gravity of such events?
