Are dialects and regional languages still spoken in Thuringia, and what do they sound like? The West Thuringian dialect spoken in the Wartburgkreis district, around Eisenach and Bad Salzungen, can sound quite distinctive, as the example from Ruhla shows. Near Mühlhausen, there is the Vogteier Platt dialect, and in the Rudolstadt and Saalfeld area, the Ilmthuringian dialect transitions into the Southeast Thuringian dialect. Around Meiningen and in the Sonneberg area, the dialect sounds Franconian. And the Altenburg dialect belongs to the East Thuringian dialect...

Samantha, the daughter of a single mother, has to go and live with her grandmother in the countryside because her mother is seriously ill in hospital. The grandmother uses the child as cheap labor in her guesthouse. Fortunately, there is also her clever grandfather, who knows how to outwit his strict grandmother. Samantha also meets Beni, who is spending his holidays with his grandmother in the same village. Beni befriends Samantha and, like her grandfather, brings some joy into her dreary everyday life. After a heated argument with her grandmother, Samantha runs away one day.

Mitrice Richardson, a lovely 24 year old African-American woman, was released late at night from the Malibu, California Sheriffs jail after having been detained for not paying her bill at an upscale restaurant. She was described as 'acting crazy' and, in fact, was having a mental crisis. She was released into the mountainous region with no cell, no purse, no ID, no car, no way home and vanished. Eleven months later her remains were found in a desolate Malibu canyon. 'Lost Compassion,' shot from ten days after Mitrice went missing, tells the complex, emotional inside story of the search for Mitrice and struggles with the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, whose deputies lied about her arrest and likely were involved with her disappearance and murder.
